The new Jaguar XJ: Sorry It's Ugly...

The title says it all, but look by youself... honestly? Many things are wrong here, the most obvious being the headlights which could hardly be worst. The are positionned too low and the shape is bad: simply because it is hard to have a nice look with headlights bending down. I illustrated this by a light yellow arrow on the picture.

What I cannot definitely understand is that designers and many people have been working on relooking the XJ... how long should you look at something so that the worst uglyness can fade into beauty? Looks like Jaguar people have exceeded this time... and lost any common sense along the way.

French innovative design is funny

When the french designers of Renault came out with this "thing", they flooded car magazines with complex explanations about why they did it this way... from the shape of headlights - supposed to suggest magnificence and authority - to the back - supposed to suggest the woman dresses under Louis XVI reign - . Eeeeerk! Instead of theorizing, they should have used the most obvious instrument with which one judge a car design: their eyes!
Needless to say, this car was a total commercial failure. Everything is wrong here, but nevertheless, every details of the design - taken separately - is pretty well done... Those famous headlights for instance are not so different from the so talented Cadillac CTS, but the whole thing looks like a minibus with an abnormally long hood. Now that this "car" has been around for some time, it looks now clear that the design of Mr. Patrick Le Quement was, say, too innovative. Funny enough, this same Mr. Le Quement indicates that he always said that he would had done it a very different way. We still need to understand why he did not...
